Iron and Hessian Home no Good to Wife. Sequel in City Court.
His drunken habits making it impossible for her to live with him any longer, Emma Mawby left her husband, William George Mawby, three years ago.
For three months, he continued to pay maintenance, but since then has contributed practically nothing towards her upkeep, stated Mrs Mawby yesterday afternoon, when she brought her troubles before Mr A B Kidson, PM and Mr J Mather, JP in the City Court.
Through her counsel, Mr L D Seaton, she applied for legal separation, and an order for future maintenance.
Mawby was defended by Mr O'Dea.
When giving her evidence, Mrs Mawby declared that when at Boulder eight months ago, she instituted similar proceedings to those current, against her husband. The Bench dismissed the case because Mawby promised, in Court, that he would maintain her properly in future.
After the case, he took her out to a spot in the bush where there was erected an iron and hessian cottage.
"Is this a home?" she asked, and her fears were confirmed when he replied that it was.
"If you don't like, well you know what to do?" he added significantly.
Taking the cue, she left him again.
"It's all caused through his drinking habits," she declared unhappily.
Mawby, giving his evidence, practically corroborated the story told by his wife, but did not admit having been negligent towards her maintenance in any way.
At the conclusion of evidence, the Bench announced that Mawby would have to pay 20s a week future maintenance, and 45s costs.
No order as to separation was made.

Death of W Mawby. At the age of 55 years, William Mawby, member of the Boulder Brass Band and a well known and popular identity on the goldfields, passed away at the Kalgoorlie Government Hospital at 2.30 o'clock on Friday afternoon.
The deceased recently accompanied the Kalgoorlie Band to Perth for the contests, and while there became ill.
He had been property manager of every band that had left the district.
